The 2023 Ford Ranger is offered in 3 trim levels and the Lariat trim sits at the top of the trim hierarchy. It offers one powertrain option and is loaded with luxury features. There are several packages offered to make it more capable. The Tremor package for off-roading is an example.
This year’s model sees an update in the form of the availability of the Splash Jungle Edition equipment package. The previous year saw the Ranger gain the standard Splash package which is also offered in 2023.
Powertrain and Numbers
The 2023 Ford Ranger Lariat comes with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that produces 270 hp and 310 lb-ft. It utilizes a 10-speed automatic transmission to send power to either the rear or all four wheels, based on your choosing.
The Ranger Lariat is hence a quick vehicle that is able to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just about 6.5 seconds. It can also tow very well, with its maximum towing capacity being 7500 lbs if equipped properly. It can also haul a payload of up to 1860 lbs.

The testers have good things to say about the in-cabin storage as well. There are enough cubbies, cupholders, and pockets for your basic needs. The crew cab even offers a separate storage area under the rear seats.
Among the features is a pair of bucket seats with a flow-through console up front. Meanwhile, the second row gets leather-trimmed bench seats if you opt for the crew cab. There’s also a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
There’s a lot of standard tech on this truck. The list includes dual-zone climate control, push-button ignition, keyless entry, a 4.2-inch productivity screen, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, ambient mood lighting, and a 110V power outlet.
The infotainment system is also top-class. It includes an 8-inch touchscreen which is paired with a set of 6 speakers, Wifi hotspot capabilities, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a set of USB ports.
The safety department includes goodies such as forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, a rearview camera, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic high beams.
There’s a wide list of options as well. It includes an extra productivity screen, rain-sensing wipers, leather-trimmed seats for the front, adaptive cruise control, a premium stereo by B&O, and voice-activated satellite navigation.
Exterior and Driving
The Ford Ranger is a handsome truck and the Lariat model, in particular, comes with a unique chrome bar front grille, and LED headlamps, taillamps, and fog lamps. You get to choose between two cabs and two beds of lengths 5 and 6 feet.
There are multiple packages offered on this truck that enhance the truck’s appearance. There’s a Chrome appearance package that offers chrome accents on various components such as the bumpers, mirror caps, exhaust tips, etc. The Black appearance package offers black accents.
There are two Splash packages offered. The standard one offers a custom front grille and wheel lip moldings, along with graphics. The Splash Jungle Edition offers its very own custom paint option and front grille.
The Tremor package gets you some add-ons that enhance the truck for the trail. For example, it adds skid plates, tow hooks, step bars, graphics, and the most important of them all – custom off-road suspension.

The Ranger Lariat is an athletic truck that handles quite well. On top of that, it provides all its occupants with a comfortable ride, free from the blemishes on the road. It also has been praised for its off-roading abilities as it has a responsive engine and great ground clearance.
Its Terrain Management System allows it to excel on several surfaces. As mentioned above, the Tremor package takes this truck to a whole new level if you’re looking for pure off-roading goodness. The FX4 package adds skid plates, an electronic rear diff, and tuned shocks.


Reliability and Warranty
This year’s Ford Ranger gets a superb score of 86 out of 100 from JD Power in predicted reliability and tops the organization’s list of midsize trucks. Meanwhile, Consumer Reports has also approved it, calling its reliability average.
On top of these stamps of approval, you will get a limited warranty of 3 years/36k miles. There’s also a separate warranty for the powertrain components that’s good for 5 years/60k miles.
Verdict
It can be said that the 2023 Ford Ranger is an awesome truck and that the Lariat is the best version of it. It is a serious workhorse truck that can also be used to drive your family around in as it is efficient, luxurious, comfortable, and reliable.
Ford has included a lot of standard amenities on this truck but you can make it even better with the equipment and packages that are optional.
