2023 Ford F-550 Super Duty Review

The Ford Super Duty series is a group of trucks that can do it all and do it anywhere, no matter how tough the conditions are. This series has something for every business owner out there. If you’re looking for a chassis cab, then the F550 should be the truck to opt for.
Therefore, the following is a review of the 2023 Ford F-550 Super Duty:
Features
The 2023 Ford F550 is a part of the all-new 5th-gen Super Duty that was launched for this model year. You get to choose from 3 trim levels, 2 engine options (gasoline and diesel), 3 cab types, 8 wheelbases, and 2 rear-wheel configurations.
Powertrain and Numbers
The 2023 Ford F-550 comes with the mighty 7.3-liter V8 engine found on the other Super Duty models. It produces 335 hp and 468 lb-ft, which is enough to propel this gargantuan truck. It comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
For more oomph, you can opt for the 6.7-liter Powerstroke (turbocharged) V8 which runs on diesel. It is good for 330 hp and a whopping 950 lb-ft. It comes with the same transmission but also features diesel engine-exhaust braking. 2- and 4-wheel drive are offered with both engines.
As you’d expect, the towing capabilities of the 2023 F550 are superb. If you equip the truck with a gooseneck hitch and the turbodiesel engine, it can tow up to 34,500 lbs. The gas engine isn’t too shabby either as it can tow up to 22,400 lbs with the hitch.
The towing capacities are great without the hitch as well. Both the engines can help you pull up to 18,500 lbs. Then we have the payload capacities which go all the way to 12,770 lbs with a total GVWR of 19,500 lbs.

Inside, the Ford F550 features a massive cabin that has superb build quality and looks fantastic. Despite the workhorse nature of this truck, the interior becomes more luxurious as you move up the trim levels. The interior is very well spaced as expected from a truck this size.

As mentioned above, the cabin is full of nice materials. These include the Lincoln soft-touch seating material, the leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the interior accents made from genuine wood.
You also get a lot of technology which includes tri-zone climate control, push-button ignition, remote start, keyless entry, a 12-inch instrumentation screen, ambient lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a heated steering wheel, and wireless charging for your smartphone.
But we’re not done as you also get amazing seats. The front ones are 10-way power-adjustable, and they both have memory options. They’re also heated and ventilated; the same goes for the second row. You also get power-folding on the second and third rows of seats.
Then you have a state-of-the-art infotainment system that is based on a 13.2-inch touchscreen, a premium 14-speaker stereo by Revel, Amazon Alexa, satellite navigation, and SiriusXM radio. WIFI hotspot capabilities are also included, along with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The safety department is as good as it gets. You get automated emergency braking (w/pedestrian detection), blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, reverse brake assist, adaptive cruise control (w/lane-centering assist), parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, etc.

The F550 receives a refreshed exterior that makes it more stylish, while maintaining its grand demeanor. The truck is available exclusively as a chassis cab which means that you are free to customize it according to your business needs.
You get the 2023 F550 in 3 different cab configurations – Regular Cab, SuperCab, and Crew Cab. There are 8 different wheelbases offered from 145 to 205 inches of length – they allow you to add a longer body or box based on your needs. Of course, they affect the GVWR as well.
Also, this truck is available in single and double-rear-wheel configurations. The latter increases traction and stability, allowing you to tow and haul heavier without breaking a sweat.
The exterior colors available on the 2023 Ford F550 Super Duty are:
- ● Agate Black Metallic
- ● Oxford White
- ● Iconic Silver Metallic
- ● Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat
- ● Stone Gray Metallic
- ● Antimatter Blue Metallic
- ● Carbonized Gray Metallic
- ● Race Red
In terms of drivability, the F550 is very composed and controlled for its size. It offers refined and smooth engine options unlike the commercial trucks of old. You get a commanding driving position, and enough power to keep the drive exciting. The cabin is also comfortable and quiet.

Reliability and Warranty
JD Power doesn’t rate commercial trucks, which includes the F550. However, you should find positive reviews from those who have bought this truck. Also, you get a set of warranties in case of any trouble.
There is the limited warranty which is good for 3 years/36k miles. There’s also the powertrain warranty for 5 years/60k miles. If you buy a whole fleet of these trucks, then you can expect a commercial powertrain warranty of 5 years/100k miles.
Verdict
This was the 2023 Ford F550 – a masterpiece of a commercial truck that excels in every department. It is powerful, tows and hauls like none of its peers can, and has a comfortable cabin to make work more fun.
